A bit off topic, but of use to anyone wanting to locate collection data or
for plant collectors, prior to collecting trips:
The Life Global Mapper is being used by the Missouri Botanical Garden to
indicate the exact collecting sites for plants by latitude-longitude
coordinates on dynamic maps that zoom in with a center on the point of the
current map you are using. There are database links to the botanic garden
host with the particular data on the taxon in question, so the functions are
two-way between the botanical garden and the online mappers. You also can
go to an online function that will allow you to add data points for new species.
Life Global Mapper by Polistes Corporation:

Evidently, there are as many as three corporations cooperating on the
development of these utilities.

Now all we need to do is get major herbariums like Harvard and Kew to
digitize and load their type herbarium specimens online to make it possible
to identify most plants.
