Can you name the manfreda I saw in bloom at Seaside Gardens in Carpinteria last weekend?
Stout, broad leaves ending in a distinct point, 8 - 10" long. Bright green with soft burgundy brown spots, flower stalks 6 or 7 ft tall.

Thank you for introducing me to Manfreda which I had never even heard of till now. It seems the genus is closely related to Aloe, but deciduous. None of my local books even metioned it under synonyms but a google search for manfreda yielded M maculosa which seems to agree with your description.
