Re: Romneya coulteri

Hi Pamela and the others,

Oh yes, it grows well here in France, everywhere in France. In my first garden in Paris area, I grew it close to the house, each winter the stems shed their leaves and I used to cut them to the ground in february. It formed a colony of 8 meters long. The climate over there is as in London.
Here, in the south of France, it stands evergreen, but as the old leaves are yellowish, I cut the old stems back too. The first year, it looked very bad and was afraid of losing it, but I watered it from time to time, only the first year,  and now it has increased in width.
The flowers had just finished and I did not know there are several varieties.

By the way, how can I collect the seeds ? Do I must wait for the seed pods to become brown as usual ?

Has anyone outside of Southern California grown Romneya coulteri sucessfully. More specifically I am wondering  if anyone is growing it in the Mediterranean basin or anywhere that has typical mediterranean alkaline soil.   I  would be interested to hear experiences. Its such a lovely plant.
