evolution

Thank you all for your suggestions on this topic.
I would like to make two final observations. First, browsing through papers on botanical evolution, systematics etc. I have come to the conclusion that these are ideal subjects if you want to engage in an intellectual stoush - the venom writers pour on each other is, well, interesting in many cases.
Second, I am learning a lot through reading about the evolution of insects. Should have realised.
