Leptospermums are one of the standard flowering shrubs planted widely
throughout the Medit climate regions of the world. Murray Dawson, in
New Zealand, has just written two well researched and thorough articles
entitled "A History of Leptospermum scoparium in cultivation -
Discoveries from the wild", in the March 1997 issue of "The New
Plantsman" and "A History of Leptospermum scoparium in cultivation:
garden selections", in the June 1997 issue of "The New Plantsman". I
sent Murry as much information on the Leptospermums in the California
nursery trade as I could find. I'm glad that we now have a written
history of these versatile, ornamental plants.
On another note I am compiling a list of green flowering plants with
horticultural merit. Why green you may ask? Well, my mother's favorite
flower was Bells-of-Ireland (Moluccellia laevis), and I guess I just
became imprinted on that flower color. Green flowers are especially
wonderful as cut flowers. People who have never seen a green flower
will often stop dead in the tracks upon seeing their first green floral
bundle. What follows is a greenish to green colored flowers list that I
compiled a few years ago as a retail nursery handout. Some part of the
flower should have some aspect of green. So, if you have any
nominations for your favorite green flowers please post them on Medit
Plants and I will post a compiled list. Nominations are now open...
Thanks
