One of my favorites is the Garden Supply in Los Altos (on El Camino just
"south" of San Antonio). There's also a related Garden Supply in Redwood
City, I think.
I've bought many of my thymes there, as well as varieties of sisyrinchium
and Pacific Coast iris hybrids. They usually have a number of species or
varieties of a given genus, and are well stocked in Mediterranean plants.
They serve professional landscapers as well as individuals like me.
Another good nursery, though more mainstream, is the Palo Alto Woolworth
Nursery. I've often been surprised by what I find there...though that is
where I found that Greek Thyme which I now suspect is Satureja thymbra
(thanks, Ginny!).
I'm interested in hearing about other good nurseries, particularly down
here in the South Bay area.
