Aloe recommendations

Dear friends,

I am truly excited to be creating a new garden for the front of my house.
For the last seven years, my family and I have lived in a very ugly white
stucco house that we have been remodeling and relandscaping. This last
winter (Dec and January in our hemisphere), we finally reroofed and instead
of repainting, we restuccoed our house. So now we live in a house that is
the color of terra cotta and soft gold (a few accent walls), with a forest
green metal roof. Very striking and the envy of our neighborhood.

A landscape architect who has become a good friend over the years, has just
completed a design for the front and has specified several large aloes. My
natural tendency is to use this as an excuse to run out to the nursery and
spend money -- but I know that this is a permanent landscape so I need to
plan well. I 'd like to ask you all for your recommendations -- which
aloes are your favorites? Why are they your favorites? How do they look?
where have you seen them?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Nan

PS I might add, that the landscape architect was delighted to be designing
something other than an English-style garden. And we were pleased that she
was so excited.
