San Francisco: Calif Rare Fruit Growers Meeting March 11

California Rare Fruit Growers Meeting and Updates
			    Newcomers welcome!

Our speaker at the next meeting on March 11 is Terri Beausejour, who will
speak on mushrooms in the garden. Terri Beausejour is Vice-President of the
Mycological Society of San Francisco, and chairs the society's cultivation
committee. When not on the road to mycological adventure and discovery, she
works as a Senior Software Engineer at a leading computer-aided design
firm.

The meeting will be held at the Randall Museum, 199 Museum Way, San
Francisco, at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 11. Getting there can be a bit of a
challenge but is well worth the trip, since this is the meeting place for
the MSSF and where they have a demonstration garden.

Looking for a New Home

The wrecking ball is about to descend on the buildings at xxxx Oak Park in
Pleasant Hill, where we've held our annual scion exchanges since about
forever. This means, of course, that we need to find a new site and, given
necessary lead times, fast. The ideal site would be centrally located,
probably in central Alameda County, convenient to highways and parking.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Please let Idell or Bill Grimes know if
you do.

We've always asked for a $1 donation to cover rental costs for the scion
exchange site and would like to keep that minimum amount but, of course,
can always ask for more if costs dictate. Let's find an even better home
for our premium event.

CRFG Has A New President

It the last CRFG Board Meeting, which I missed due to vacation, Norm Beard
was elected the new president of CRFG, replacing Glenn Young, who is
"retiring" to Sierra Madre. Although I do not know Norm personally, I have
been assured that he will be an active and involved president and will lead
the evolving organization into the 21st century. I hope we can get Norm to
an upcoming meeting so we can all get to know him and to let him know our
issues here in Northern California.

For more information about this meeting and other CRFG activities, please
contact Bill Grimes <wagrimes@pacbell.net>.
