Along with starting things from seed, we have some asclepiadaceae - Asclepias curassavica and Tweedia caerulea - held over from last summer. They all are infested with this yukky orange aphid - and it's only the ascleps that have it - nothing else, thank the Lord! We've tried pinching them and scalding them but they come back -
Hi
The best way I know if getting rid of most aphids is sharp blast from
the hose. A water jet of this type uually seems to dislodge them very
weil, but you can also mop up the stragglers by washing the plants in
soapy water. (finish by rinsing with clear water to prevent stickyness
or deposits on the leaves)
Regarding the fact they affect the Asclepiads only. This is a clear
indication to me they are a special type tailored to living on Asclepias
in the same way as Monarxch butterfly caterpillars are.
