It is easy to tell if it is a Westringia - they have octagonal symmetry
(occassionally hexagonal) - 8 (6) vascular bundles. When they start out as
seedlings, I think they have the normal 4-fold (square) cross-section.
Every now and then, I get axillary growth on my Lamiaceae with 6-fold
symmetry, and it is only present for that stem. Does anyone know the
correct term for this behavior?
