Re: off topic! Cactus others delete

I wanted to send you one more message from the person I was
getting the ID's for. With your help and some others, we ID'd all
five of the plants for which Pat is very grateful. And thanks to all
of you that helped. This is a great use for the list and I hope I
have not angered or irritated anybody too much.

Charles:
Thanks ever so much. I have learned a lot by the process,
including the
difference between columnar and barrel cactus!! I really do appreciate your
"readers" help on this one. I will send the link to our webpage when we
debut it the beginning of May.
Please extend my thanks to all the identifiers; my students
also relay their
thanks.
Without flowers, keying was getting extremely difficult and
your readers have save our overall greenhouse project for the semester. We
are developing the aforementioned website for 31 of our plants (one per
student), they will each determine cultural requirements of their plant and
repot and upgrade the plant. Unfortunately, many of the plants in the
greenhouse are somewhat inadequate (yes, I'm being diplomatic) as "specimen"
plants and so we started a propagation project to root and create new plants
vegetatively for those poor under-tended plant souls. We are also potting
up some of our routine but very large plants and putting them, labeled, on
display around the places on campus which interface with trustees, board
members, and alumni in hopes of promoting our greenhouse, making the college
community aware it even has an instructional greenhouse and, hopefully,
finding a generous alum to fund the necessary repairs in the greenhouse.
For a college of 1200 students, to have an 18' x 40' greenhouse and allow it
to go to the extreme that this has been allowed, to me is disgraceful.
Though I am only in a one-year, temporary, position, I intend to make this
greenhouse known and to raise the banner high for its resurrection!
So, again, Charles, thanks to you and to your faithful
readers that helped us save our botany projects and hopefully in the
long run, our instructional greenhouse
