Thank you both so much for this off topic posting.
I too use grey water from my washing machine, but was on the point of giving
up because of -- yes that's right - syphoning.

I think it is a perfectly legit subject as water for our plants is always
uppermost in our minds.
I will try the barrel method and continue to flood my Hedychiums which need
as much water as I can give.
