Hello Moira,
Thanks for filling me in on the Vitex-I guess that the
plantings at Strybing may be effected by the cooler
climate here as well, or possibly have been reduced in
size by freeze damage in the past decade, which Jason
of San Francisco pointed out to me. The plants at
Strybing were damaged in 1990 and 1998 freezes, having
mostly just lost their leaves. The plants at Strybing
are probably over 15 years old, and have the
appearance of 15 to 20 foot tall multi trunk large
shrubs, which again could be a result of past freeze
damage, I suppose. The low temps here in these past
freezes reached at least -5C, os it appears that it is
a bit hardier with age.
