Actually, about 8 years ago I remember UC researchers used acres of crops with
specific leaves for mulch to determine whether or not a given tree's leaves should
be avoided as mulch. The results of their fairly exhaustive research exonerated E.
globulus, E. deglupta and E. citriodora as mulch. These are amoung the most
popular species in California, hence their use in the study.
I remember these results vividly because at the very time they were published, I
had just determined that E. deglupta leaves were raising havouc in my garden.
Imagine my consternation when I read the study. I never determined the real
culprit.
