Don -

There are various species of Passion Flower, some adaptable to temperate or
mediterranean conditions, other strictly tropical or sub-tropical. The
include some of the most amazingly complex floral structures as well as
some of the most unusual leaf forms. Many produce delicious edible fruit.

A good place to get an overview of this vast genera is perhaps
http://www.passionflow.co.uk/ which is obviously in England, the
information usually slanted towards greenhouse growing. A more local
resource for you is the California Rare Fruit Growers, who has a page of
information about this vine at
http://www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/passionfruit.html. There is lots and lots of
stuff out there for Passiflora species, but keep in mind that many of these
are written by true collectors who are growing them under very different
conditions than our mediterranean climate.

Hope this helps a bit.
