Forgive my butting in, but I found some information about the culture of
this plant in a very old but prized book of mine on annuals. (Annuals in
Colour and Cultivation - T.C. Mansfield 1949)
Of Glaucium he says "really biennial, but grown as an annual in the
garden in any soil in a sunny place". So it doesn't sound as though it
is very fussy does it? I suppose if happy it might then self-seed, but
the usual month for sowing it is apparently April.
It grows on local beaches here (a real cosmopolitan, eh?) and I did once
transplant a couple of small wild plants to my garden, but while they
did establish themselves and flower they didn't leave any seedlings
behind.
I hope your exile doesn't have to last much longer. I don't know how you
can bear to leave that lovely home and garden of yours even for a little
while.
