Re: Crinum moorei

Phil:

I hope you don't mind me jumping in on this (even
though you addressed it to Dave; and I hope Dave
doesn't mind either).

When I lived in San Diego, I saw Crinums (both C.
moorei and C. x powelli) in both full sun to deepest
shade.

Those in full sun bloomed the best but looked the
"hardest". Those in any degree of shade looked
healthiest but (I think) bloomed less. Those in shade
also grew somewhat taller (as would be expected).

>From what I saw, the ideal location for those grown in
gardens very near the coast -- where the air is cooler
-- would be mostly or all sun. Inland, shade, at
least in the afternoon, would be better. I don't
recall any actual "sunburn" on those plants grown in
full sun inland, I do remember such plants being
unattractively "bleached" and tight.

Although Lemon Grove is very near SD Bay, I would
consider more of an inland clime than a coastal one.
