Re: Myrsine

David, Alessandra and all--
--I recently ran into a coffee-table book about the gardens of the
Spanish designer Fernando Caruncho. He appears to use clipped hedges
(formal and freeform) as his main (if not only) element of design apart
from selected trees (usually cypress, olive and pine--often
preexisting). Though his preference seems to be for Escallonias rather
than box, he also uses common mediterranean shrubs like Pistacia
lentiscus, Myrtus communis, and kermes oak. The book is geared to
aesthetic appreciation of photos so there are no explanations of
light/shade advantages and things like that, but it provides many
interesting ideas.
