Back in the mid 80s, I made several visits to the UCSC Arboretum and saw
your amazing extensive collection of South African Ericas. Brett Hall
explained that the reason they were so showy and bright colored was that
they were pollinated by sunbirds.
The last visit I made, the collection had fallen into disrepair because of
hard financial times becaus of the recession. Even with help from
volunteers, there was too much work to do and little financial support. Has
the collection been rebuilt, and are you facing another fiscal threat
because of cutbacks in support caused by the current state deficit?
