Albergo Silvio (also an inn).  Somewhat off the beaten track.  It is about a 1.5 km walk from the docks, uphill, although we took a longer walk wandering through the town to the east, before finding our way back to a road that led to the restaurant.  Semi-lost - had only a vague direction of how to find it, but a worthwhile and pleasant diversion.  Pavarotti enjoyed dining there.  The proprietor's husband was drying his fishing nets near the terace where we ate (with a great view of the lake) - Lunch for me included the fish he had caught that morning.  Another very great lunch was had at the Grand Hotel in Menaggio - although a somewhat more formal setting.

This is a longshot - but I have been wondering about this tree for 15 years.
We were walking through the Gardini di Villa Mezli in Bellagio, on our way to lunch (one of the best restaurant lunches I have ever had).
I saw this immense tree.  I remember it being at least 20 meters high; the leaves (or leaflets) were about 4-5 cm long and 2/3 as wide, shaped rather like small Ulmus leaves.But they were variegated - green and white.  Unfortunately, I did not have a camera, so I have only my memory of the tree.
