Spring is here

After very wet December and January seasons, we have
not received any more rain here in Central California.
I have had to start watering some areas of the garden.

Most of the South African bulbs in pots have finished
their seasons, but the Chasmanthes in the ground are
still blooming. A little purple and green fritillary
is blooming; the echium is pushing up big bloomstalks.

Blossoms are out on the redbud. I hadn't thought I
would see any, as a couple of scrub jays were eating
the buds a week, or so, ago. I had never noticed them
do this before.

I had a tree service take out the big pistache that
shaded the back yard, as its roots were pushing up
my patio slab. What a job! Now I need to find a shade
substitute, some kind of framework for shadecloth.
I still have the plastic up around the lathhouse,
though by March 15th we are officially beyond the
frost season.

Daffodils blooming, oxalis, Japanese maples leafing
out. It begins again.
