True indeed. A. phalloides is a very common mushroom around monterey county
and santa cruz counties as well. They tell us the way to spot it is it some
times ( keyword sometimes) has a metallic green luster to the cap. Faint but
visible. There is a mushroom around here that grows on cypresses and is
edible. Although it must be hard to find.
ANYHOW i agree a garden without poisonus plants would be indeed
a boring garden. Some of the most beautiful plants we have are poisonus or in
edible. I say we take our risks. If youre so afraid a child may eat your
oleander, build a fence around your property.
