Colette,

Do save the Galanthus seed, but note: seed of this genus does not 
germinate easily after dry storage.  The easiest way to handle it is to 
store in slightly moistened sand or peat or vermiculite in baggies in a 
refrigerator, and plant in pots or flats in early autumn.

If you want to increase the snowdrops in your own garden, simply plant 
the seed in appropriate spots [ie, base of shrubs] wheree you will not be 
cultivating or planting.

As is generally true for plants, seed-grown plants from a named variety 
will not be exact copies of their parents.  The G.'elwesii' comes quite 
true from seed however. And I'd expect the same of G.atkinsonii
