Is the spot only damp or actually waterlogged? In this case, could you
provide some drainage? I find that our native Viburnum tinus is very useful
in the shade, and it stands summer heat. Perhaps one of the Osmanthus (not
med) could also do - I remember at Ninfa gardens we used to have a lovely
O.delavay growing right by a stream - actually the roots must have been in
the water - it wasn't very long lived, but beautiful while it lasted.
