Re: Is it Ditney of Crete?

Hello.

Could this be a hybrid of Dittany of Crete (Origanum dictamnus)
possibly? Not that ordering this specie from various nurseries won't get
you a remarkable collection of Very different plants <grin>... Nothing
closely approximating a Dittany of Crete that I've grown seems to have a
square stem, though, the stem is wiry, even impossibly thin, and round,
and usually dark-- reddish-brown.

While someone is mentioning it, I never hear enough people comment about
the common name;
apparently, like the Greek Goddess Artemis and the Artemisia, Dittany of
Crete seems to share a name with the Cretan Goddess, Diktyanna. It can
be wonderful fun to think about that, sometimes I think I can see her
story told by this plant as it "leaps" from cliffs toward the sea...
Apparently only the plant itself is aware that the fishermen who saved
her were kissed in gratitude <grin>...
