Wildflower Sites

We have made two trips to Southern California. The first went through Anza
Borrego and Death Valley. The second through Joshua Tree. Thick carpets of
wildflowers. I wanted to add the following places to those mentioned
elsewhere: Red Rock Canyon State Park (stop at visitor's center--they are very
helpful) south of Inyokern on Rt. 14, Short Canyon at the intersection of Rts.
14 and 395 (enter the dirt road next to the blank billboard next to gas
station and drive about four miles to parking lot), eastern end of Lake
Isabella on Rt. 178, and upper Kern River Canyon on Rt.178.

The Poppy Preserve in Antelope Valley on Avenue I in Lancaster west of Rt. 14
was in full color. The road between Rt. 178 and Rt.190 (Panamint Valley Road)
just west of Death Valley had many roadside sites with varied species. I don't
know what the rain which started in Bakersfield on our way north on I-5 may
have done to the exisitng blossoms.
