There used to be a number of them around the Bay Area that were thriving
and fruiting, but I don't know if any survived the '90 freeze. One bush was
doing quite well on the north side of Durant Ave (just below Bowditch) in
Berkeley -- in a dinky front yard surrounded by concrete and tall
buildings. There was also a big planting of them thriving along the
south/east sides of the Moscone Center in San Francisco. On the other hand,
the one I bought in Southern California and grew in the Berkeley flats (and
also a Carissa caranda I tried) just sulked, and eventually died from the
winter wet/cold.
