Can anyone tell me which Carissa I have??
I have some massed plantings of Carissa in an interior environment. It's a
plant I knew from Africa, but I had never tried growing it until 3 years
ago. I planted 72. They have proved incredibly successful. They are
planted in a mix of peat/sand/soil, temperature is controlled at 19-22 C &
relative humidity 40-60%. Light is plentiful at over 10,000 lux. They're
doing great! As others have said the flower is so exquisite, and
especially lovely against those glossy leaves.
However...
My Carissa is different from those described so far - it creeps. I planted
it so that it can grow out of its planter and across the rocks, and ¹t's a
really lovely (prickly!) cover. Very occasionally a shoot is thrown
upwards, but because it naturally creeps so well I have always treated
these as sports & cut them out.
I also have it in the shade under trees in another part of the park, where
it seems just as happy.
By the way a big thank you for the information you all gave me about
Araucaria excelsa - especially from NZ (nearest to where it comes from).
It was good. Thanks.
Chevrel.
