My thanks to Frances, Moira, and Tim for your help with my question. I had
planted some out in the roof garden as the first row of a hedge/windbreak I am
repairing. I had read that it grows to about 6ft (2m), and is wind tolerant.
Then in my obsessive way I pulled out all my books to read every word I could
find on it. One reference listed the height as only 3ft(1m) and of course I had
a fit of panic thinking I had wasted money, time, and labor putting in the wrong
thing...but you all seem to agree that it's a good tough shrub and of a height
to be useful to me. I think it's a beautiful shrub and since the windbreak is a
mixed planting I can get away with putting in something new and exciting (she
says yawning over the ubiquitous but ever useful Ligustrums).
I'm also still interested in finding out if Bay Area folks have any experience
with it.
