carissa macrocarpa

Further to Jerry's posting on this subject, I
suppose the first thing to say is that it's
definitely not a mediterranean plant. It will grow
in medit climates but it doesn't thrive. In
its native habitat it occurs in coastal bush
in the sub-tropical areas of Natal, South Africa.
I don't know about the ph, but it occurs within
10 metres of the shoreline, on heavily vegetated
coastal dunes, where the annual rainfall is at
least 750ml (30 in) per year. As the leaves are
always a very deep green I can only conclude that
the soil must be acidic. (This is all from memory,
I don't live there anymore!)
