for the same  reason that New Zealand was overly represented by birdlife
that had taken ecological niches usually filled by mammals elsewhere
The island was originally populated by a very small selection of species
(plant and animal) of a limited genepool hence its unique flora and fauna
that is easily theatened by introduced species.
