Re: Re(2): Roystone

Barry,
As you suggested I checked out www.plantapalm.com, part of the Palm &
Cycad Society of Florida. The common name for Roystone is Florida Royal
Palm.

Here's my story for those interested in cultural context. In Hawaii, this
stately palm lines the roadways down opulent estates. My most distinct
memory of Royal Palms was as a child visiting the site of a movie set with
my schoolmates in the Nuuanu Valley. A scene for Big Jim McLain was being
shot on location with Royal Palms as a backdrop. I met and shook hands
with John Wayne that day. We don't call them Florida Royal Palms in
Hawaii. Can't tell if this if FL is their original habitat.
