Re: Roystonea

The Florida Royal Palm is Roystonea elata - a native of the everglades
regions of Southern florida and apparently widely planted as a 'mall
tree' along with the Cuban Royal Palm - R. regia. It would seem that
both require relatively high temperatures and humidity at all times.

Roystonea borinquena is the Puerto Rican Royal Palm and thanks to
Beverly in Australia, I now learn that provided shelter from cold
winds is given, this species is suitable for cool sub tropical
climates. Despite being as far north as Winnipeg, our average
temperature ranges put us well within this climate group.
