I had both color variations of Lonicera japonica planted on my backyard fence
in fairly close proximity to my vegetable garden. After the first year or
two, I was startled to find the honeysuckle coming up all over the place in
my vegetable beds via subterranean runners. I fought it for several years
before deciding to eliminate it from my garden entirely. Perhaps it would be
less invasive where it is totally neglected, but it can be a real thug in a
garden that is regularly cultivated and irrigated.
