Thanks for pointing that out.  In my haste to reply, I didn't think to look 
up the Latin name.  You are right, of course.  There is a nice example at a 
little sandwich shop I frequent in Modesto.  I asked the owner about it, and 
he just told me it was Giant Timber Bamboo, and the clump had stayed the same 
size since he'd been there--around 30 years!
