Re: jpg files/the Medit-Plants web site

Folks -

There have been a few instances where members have put image attachments on
their posts to Medit-Plants - this is not standard policy and is
discouraged. Since our group is really worldwide, and many people receive
our e-mail on a wide variety of machine types and platforms, not all can
deal with these attachments easily. To some, they appear as thousands of
lines of unintelligible jibberish text. They also take a fair amount to
store in people's attachment directories. We heard from a few members
about other problems linked to e-mail attachments. It is unfortunate that
such a simple type of 'sharing' can backfire in causing some people problems.

Placing your images on a web page somewhere is certainly a good
solution. If anyone has images that would be appropriate additions to our
suite of web pages on the Medit-Plants site, I would be willing to work
with them about placing them on an appropriate page.

I also enjoyed Alessandra's pictures of her Caesalpinia sepiaria. I've
already captured them and Alessandra's comments. I am building a web page
for this species on our site. Soon it will be available as part of our
other plant profile pages. I will be in contact with her further about
this page (and some seeds!). As an solution example for the above
mentioned problem, Alessandra and I could have worked together to create
this page before-hand, and her e-mail to the group could have announced its
existence.

This is how much of our web site content is built and is how the site was
conceived. We also give appropriate acknowledgement to content providers
as needed/requested. If any of you out there have information, either text
or image, that you'd like to share in a more permanent manner than through
the Medit-Plants e-mail forum (e.g. on a web page), please feel free to
contact me.

Sean O.
