Dear janet,
Hope all is well back in Hania, and again, thanks for a wonderful afternoon visiting. I ran out of time here to get it together to send a stamped, self addressed return envelope for mailing seed back to me in Berkeley, but will send this when I get back to the states, (or London), with an international postal money order. I would love it if you could collect some seeds for me of the following species:
1. Petromarula pinnata, which I saw growing in Hania along the walls of the old fort, as well as on an old wall right in town along the port, next to the restaurant Golden Wok, which is right behind that Turkish domed building on the waterfront. I would guess that either of these locations might have ripe seed in 3 to 4 weeks time.
2. Glaucium flavum- the Yellow Horned Poppy, which seems to be mostly along the rocky road sides or right near the beach. I gathered some seed, but am not sure that it was ripe, and would guess that in another 3 weeks the seed should be ripe in most any location.
3. Ebunus creticus- which I am not sure occurs on your side of the island, but was abundant around Plakias at sea level. Again, I had gathered some seed, but I don't think it was sufficiently ripe. If you are over that way in the next month to 6 weeks, I would think there would be some ripe by then.
4. Matthiola tricuspidata- a stock growing abundantly all along the beaches near Hania, and also along roadsides. It grows right in the sand, and again, should have ripe seed within about 3 to 4 weeks.
If it isn't too much trouble and you are in the area of any of these locations, I would love some seed, and would be most happy to return the favor if there is anything you'd like from California. Hope you are enjoying your garden, I thought it was charming.
Take care, David
