This was a really helpful and interesting thread and I wondered if anyone
could comment on the following:
one can now buy a concentrate extracted from the pips of grapefruit which is
extremely efficacious against fungal infections. The literature I have in
front of me mentions 23 human conditions for which it is helpful, and as well
against some nasty bacterial infections including legionnaires. Another of
the claims for a treating plants against aphids, diverse predators, [maybe
Moira's beastly blackbirds. Only joking.] fungi, and moulds etc.
Elsewhere we are told one can treat animals against all the above and cleanse
wounds, kill ticks, disinfect stables, [wonder if it would help in the case of
foot and mouth]or use in aquaria and ponds.
This wonder substance was discovered in 1980 by a gardener in Florida who
noticed that the grapefruit pips in the middle of his compost did not rot
away. As he, Dr Jacob Harich, was a medical doctor, an immunologist and
Einstein Prize winner he researched and experimented, and discovered that
these pips were stronger and had fewer side effects than most anti-biotics.
Since then there has been a lot more research.
The leaflet also tells me that as their product is not from America it is
exempt from "ammonium quaternaire" Benzethonium etc,[I am translating from
French] .
It seems that unless one is allergic to the fruit there is no problem in
using it.
Sounds to good to be true, but I can vouch for it re:some of the above, and
no, I have no commercial interest, but I begin to wish I had !
