It is also VERY important that you own and use a good anti-virus software.
You must not only install it, you must keep it up to date by downloading the
current virus definition (usually called DAT) file. They are put out at
least monthly, sometimes oftener, and a good vendor will notify you when
there is one available out of cycle. Consider it in the same light as
toothbrush and washrag -

Subject: Bill Grant's computer has been infected
Importance: High
Hi Folks -
Just to let you know:
Bill Grant, a member of this forum, recently had his computer infected with
a worm virus. This virus has replicated itself and send out e-mail
apparently to everyone in his Outlook Express address book. Please note
the absurdity (more than usual ;-) that you may have received from him and
do not open the attachments they contain, especially if you use Outlook.
He got it from a trusted friend, which is very common, so we cannot really
fault him. It is important to be careful with attachments of any kind,
even leaving them unopened until you ca verify with the sender that they
are legit.
Bee safe,
Seán O.
