Fine-textured blue or grey foliage shrubs/trees?

Hi everyone,

I've been reading the Pioneer Plants thread with interest, as I'm working on
a design for a couple who have just moved into a new house. New house means
the back yard has been scraped of all topsoil (ugh). The site is completely
flat and rather small, so I want to try to suggest that the yard is larger
than it is by placing blue or grey foliaged plants near the back fence.

Do you have any suggestions for plants that could work in poor soil and
medit conditions, yet have the foliage to suggest that they are farther away
than they really are? Flowers are not important, ease of maintenance is.

The only two plants I've thought of so far (and I don't know if either is
truly appropriate) are Australian Tea Tree (Leptospermum laevigatum) and
Russian Olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia). Any opinions on those two plants or
suggestions for other plants are enthusiastically welcomed!

Thanks,
Cheryl
