If it is S. aviculare and it certainly sounds like it, it can easily
reach 8 feet or more if it is happy.  I think it is one of the more
attractive shrubby Solanums although it can seed itself about a bit.
It almost willowy, dark green leaves (on mature plants - often
irregularly palmate on juveniles) and elegant growth style make it an
excellent quick 'filler' for a sunny position.
