Re: Best Salvia

Dear Joe,

I've been playing around with a almost unknown California native perennial
that I think has much potential, and has become one of my favorites.
Collomia rawsoniana is a member of the Polmoniaceae from the southern
Sierra. It gets flame orange flowers with blue stamens in mid summer here
in El Cerrito, California. It gets to about 1' tall in full bloom and then
dies down to the rhizomes for the winter. Here on the coast in takes full
sun with summer water and also does well in my shady northern exposure. It
is very easy to propagate. I do not currently have any photos, but if
anyone is interested I will make them available when my plants start
blooming in July.

Regards, Tim Kalman
