And, to no purpose besides clarification, the Jacarandas don't have leaves
when they bloom.

I'm sure it's not Jacaranda because i've seen them up close many times at
the San Jose airport and also in Santa Barbara. It looks like it might be
Melia, but i'm not too sure because the flowers looked light blue to me,
but they have the right shape. Maybe it was the evening light or
something? :).
