Fwd: Schinus problems

Title: Fwd: Schinus problems
I have an 8 year old pepper in my front yard beneath which I grow geranium madarense, several sp of agave, several sp of aloe, a campanula (succulent one), pennisetum, salvia karwinskii, bromeliads and a host of other plants that seem to do absolutely fine in the dappled shade and rich soil of pepper tree duff.  Allelopathy is not a problem.

Hi,

Erin Doolittle with James Dean Landscape Designers in So Cal is reviewing a plan that suggests planting Schinus molle (California peppertree, Peruvian peppertree). Her firm is recommending against it, and they would like as much info as possible about the negatives of using the peppertree. They know about:

1) invasiveness
2) potential rxns to berries
3) limbs falling off when overwatered
Erin is wondering if anyone has info on the difficulty of growing other plants underneath the trees. Is there any allelopathic effect, or other issues? Please respond directly to her at erin@jamesdean.com.
Doug
