Jenny Bloom? There is a crocosmia and a kniphofia named after this person and Googling doesn't return much information. Does anyone know? I'm curious.
It is quite common to find plant breeders naming some of their creations after family members. This has of course been frequently been done with roses ever since the early 19th century at least. The McGreedy family (formerly of Ireland and latterly of NZ) has done it several times. 'Mrs Sam Mcgreedy' was I believe named for the mother (maybe grandmother) of the present Sam and (not so obvious) 'Uncle Walter' was for his uncle. The Meilland family is another rose dynasty who has done this in relatively recent times. I myself own a 'Mme A Meilland' and have in the past seen bushes of 'Papa Meilland' in several gardens.
However, the most interesting (to me) was a lady I was associated with right back at the start of my working life. Her maiden name had been Peggy Rivers and at that time (50 years ago) Rivers of Sawbridge was a big name in stone fruit breeding in the UK. A very successful strain of edible cherry had been named after her and she had a catalogue to prove it!
