I remember this plant from a past Pasadena Showcase House. It's Azalea 'Little John', an indica hybrid known for its burgundy foliage. It's supposed to have deep red flowers, which seldom appear. I think this is the cultivar you seek.

Anyone know the ID of a bronze leaved azalea - the gardener told me it never blooms, but the foliage is beautiful.
