speaking in No. California (Redding) at end of month

To those folks in Northern California . . .

At the end of this month, on May 30th, Turtle Bay's McConnell Arboretum & Gardens will be opening in Redding (North end of the San Joaquin Valley). These gardens will feature some plantings designed around the 5 mediterranean climates of the world. (for more info, see www.turtlebay.org/arboretum/). I've been asked to speak at this opening, giving a repeat of my talk entitled 'Our Mediterranean Climate: What is it and Why Do We Care?'.

I'm curious to hear from any of you at this end of California's interior valley about what you think the specific challenges area horticulturally. I always try and make minor adjustments to this talk to address local issues, so any suggestions would be of interest to me. Also, if any of you know something about Turtle Bay or have visited this institution, I'd also be interested.

Answers need not be to the whole group unless considered relevant.

Thanks in advance,
Seán O.
