It's easy to get reservations--they aren't as crowded as they were at the beginning.

A little secret about getting to the Getty...this is how I got in the day it opened! Also, if the parking lot is full, you can still get there. Take the 10 towards Santa Monica, park in the residential neighborhood close to the Santa Monica Airport...I believe National is the exit, but don't quote me on that. Then, take the Big Blue Bus #14. It drops you off right at the base of the Getty. And it's maybe 50 cents to ride one way. Double check the bus route and determine where to park. The last time I did this, there were no parking restrictions in this neighborhood, so you shouldn't have to worry about getting a parking citation. please give us a report on your garden visits! bridget seattle, wa --- Chapel Ridge Wal Mart National Hearing Center <4042N15@nationalhearing.com> wrote:Chantal, A few more friends chimed in with some suggestions and some caveats. I'll copy them here unedited: The Huntington is very nice indeed, a definite stop. Descanso Gardens (http://www.descansogardens.org/site/) is also quite nice, but their famous camellias won't look like much. The Getty is interesting too - you need parking reservations beforehand. There's the LA Arboretum (http://www.arboretum.org/), which is pretty extensive and has some nice plantings, including a lot of Australian plants; it's a little bit of a drive out of LA proper but very easy to get to. I don't know if I'd send someone to Theodore Payne. I was just there about a month ago and the pictures you see on their website of the nursery is what there is - pretty basic. Now, all I did was head right for the nursery itself and start loading up on gallon pots. We didn't look around for any garden area so maybe there's something nicer there. They do have an excellent collection of native seeds that a visitor might be able to take back home and the staff is first rate. This one http://parks.co.la.ca.us/virginia_gardens.html is one I've meant to try but never done. ++++++++++++++++++++ I would suggest Chantal and her husband visit the Getty museum in Malibu. Both the gardens and the museum are great. ++++++++++++++++++++++ The Getty villa in Malibu is closed now, they're doing some kind of renovation. The big Getty museum is up on the hill above, ummm, ummm, Westwood I think. But their garden area is worth looking at, just not the major reason for going there. ++++++++++++++++++ Kitty ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chantal Guiraud" <chantal.guiraud@modulonet.fr> To: "forum MGS" <medit-plants@ucdavis.edu> Sent: Wednesday, May 18, 2005 11:50 PM Subject: gardens of LA areaHi all, I'm planning a trip to Los Angeles from 20 to 27of june and would like tovisit gardens and nurseries.
