I read with interest about ollas. Here in Greece we have a lot of unglazed clay pots. Can't small flower pots be used if the hole in the bottom is sealed and a cover put on the top such as a piece of Styrofoam which would be camouflaged by the leaves of plants?
I read that in some areas in Africa people are taught to use tin cans with tiny nail holes as a slow means of getting water to plants
Did you paint the bath tub with anything? I also used an old bath tub but hate the white color as it looks like a bath tub. The Blue paint I used came off and I am looking for a good solution as I want it navy blue so it will look like a deep pool when filled with water and surrounded with plants and rocks. I would be interested to know how successful you will be after a hot summer.
