Verbascum! I haven't grown Verbascum anywhere near that spot in about 5 years but there must have been a seed bank because they are sprouting everywhere.
==============================================================Did you just kill the grass off by spraying it or covering it with a tarp, or did you disturb the soil in any way? Even pulling something up will bring buried seeds to the surface.
Verbascum has proved to be the longest-lived seed in the experiments still ongoing after about 120 years at an East coast U.S. university.
